The Raven

The raven flew above the humans, entertaining them with somersaults, diving downward, only to fly up to the sky and sour in the wind. She stealthily watched the human below open a bag and scatter morsels; recognizing the man as a regular. Ravens never forget a face, regardless of the fact that humans can't tell one raven from another.

Oh come on, moron! Don't you know we aren't vegetarians? We eat worms, nice, insects, We love crickets. Frogs and lizard are good. And how about a little fruit once in a while, huh?

The man's offerings sucked, but beggars can't be choosers. The raven landed and picked up a hard chunk. She flew to a puddle and dropped it in the water. The humans shook their heads and laughed like she was a dummy.

What? Just softening it up here. Stale bread and crackers? Tasteless ... yuk!

... NEW RELEASE UPDATES

The publication date is getting closer for my revised Winter's Captive, Book 1 of the Georgia Series.

I expect an announcement within the next two weeks and that availability will be October, just in time to order for those Christmas gifts.

My new cover reveal is days away. The e-book will be released at the same time as the pre-sale of autographed paperbacks at a special discounted price. I will post when available so no one will miss the opportunity to take advantage of this and get their own copies and those for those special friends and family members at Christmas.

It's been a lot of hard work and my editors, Ronald Bagliere and Linda Ortola were wonderful to work with on the rewrite of this story. I am so grateful to Melanie Fountain, Owner/Editor-In-Chief of Fountain Blue Publishing for picking up my novel. Melanie and Kim Barton, Business Manager have been so supportive and knowledgeable.

For those of you who have read the book, you may want to another go-round. I've added 10,000 additional words, more angst for Georgia and adventures, as well as developing the spirituality aspect to the story. The decision was made to change the angel encounter to a native spirit, given the geography and the raven. It brings the story that much closer to Chasing Georgia, Book 2 of the Georgia Series, in creative edits with my editors at the moment.

I am really excited to see this story become a series and hope my readers will enjoy.

WHAT A DIFFERENCE A YEAR MAKES!

January 01, 2014

One year later, another year young. 

2013 was quite a year, full of many changes and decisions.  First off, I retired August 1st and I haven't looked back. Secondly, we sold our home, but are here for the winter at least before we set out on a new adventure on Vancouver Island. 

We love the ranchlands and the spirited people of the Cariboo and it will be hard to leave. However, we will have lots of great memories to take with us and facebook to keep us in touch. I'm looking forward to breaking new ground, making new friends and finding new fuel for future books.

My retirement gave me time to finish my sequel, Chasing Georgia. Yes...I said finish. I'm in the editing and rewrite stage and will be finished this month. I will keep you updated on the publishing date.

As for family, my dear mother at 91 years of age is still going strong. Although her Alzheimers is becoming more apparent, she still knows us all which is a blessing. One of my sisters had a major health crisis this year but is recovering and growing stronger each day. Two of my grandchildren are out of school, a fact I find so hard to believe.

Life is good and I try to live a day at a time, cherishing the fact that I am so lucky to live in a free society, in a country free from war, in a province full of natural beauty, in a home I can call my own with all the comforts and necessities I need.

My resolutions for 2014 include living a healthy lifestyle foremost, publishing my sequel, and writing book number three. 

My wish for everyone out there is for health, laughter, and love.

My challenge to all my writer friends, today is day one of a 365 page book. One page a day is all you need to write to complete that novel this year.

THE LAMENT OF JUNE BOURGO

Hmm...I wrote a post last year regarding action and how if you get writer's block keep moving forward. There are other options like research, creating business cards and book markers, reading for idea stimulation, etc., etc.. I thought it was an informative and helpful piece. 

Now here I am. At a stalemate. The past two months of my life have been full of stress and decision making that have had nothing to do with my writing. Writing became non-existant, promoting my exisiting published book has become secondary. I've been facing the exact dilema I offered advice about in my December 18th blog post. 

Just so you agree that I have a right to whine, here's some of what I've been facing. My 90-year-old mother fell and broke her hip. Visits to Vancouver for a coupleof weekends were a necessity. She had surgery and survived. She is back at the care home and a physiotherapist visits her three times per week to increase her walking and strength. Now if I could tap into some of her determination...wow. But it was a very stressful time for the family as I'm sure you would agree.

Our toilet broke and had to be replaced. Then our sewer pipe backed up and we had to replace the whole system. Not only did that stress me personally, it stressed our savings too. I had to cancel a visit from the brother and his wife who are over from England because I couldn't very well send them into the bathroom with a bucket. Then, there was the fact that the water was shut off, so no showers, no washing dishes, laundry, etc. Onto the Greyhound bus I went to Vancouver to visit them at my sister's while hubby stayed home and dealt with holes in the ground and new pipes. Fortunately, we got it all together and my brother and wife were able to come up here last weekend for a few days. 

Onto my job. I went full-time at my job as an Admin. Asst in local government. My choice, yes. But definitely a few adjustments have become necessary to accommodate a full-time job as writing time became scarcer. 

My sister's husband had an emergency quadruple bypass surgery where he left us on two occasions. He's back home now recuperating and my husband's brother had a stroke and lives in Saskatchewan. Plans have been made to get him back to BC and around family. He too is recuperating.

Life has settled down. I feel back in control. Yea.... Here I am with a weekend all to myself. Time to write and do marketing. Not!  I'm tapped out. I can't focus, can't concentrate. Don't want to market, don't want to write, have my book markers and cards already. Research seems like a chore today.

So...in keeping with my own advice and staying in the genre. I'm writing this blog post to whine, whine, whine. I think I've done a pretty good job-don't you?

Off to reread my December 18th posting and see if I can motivate myself. For those of you who are writing... keep on keeping on writing.
